NEW BOOK: For Couples Who Are Tired Of Fighting About The Past
Version one is the old relationship you built by accident. You don't need a new partner. You need a new version. Same two people, a new relationship, even if your partner has checked out and you're the only one trying.
If you've heard any of these in your house in the last 30 days:
...then you're living in version one. And version one has run its course.
Version one is the relationship you built by accident. Two people who love each other, protecting themselves from each other, until the protecting became the marriage. Every couple builds one. It doesn't mean you married the wrong person.
Most couples try to save their marriage by fixing version one. They go back over the affair, the money, the years of long hours, the thing that was said in the car. Each of you brings evidence. Nobody wins, and the case never closes.
What if you drew a line under all of it, and built something new with the same person?
That is what this book shows you how to do. You can start tonight, on your own if you have to.
Everything you get for $10:
One September afternoon, Christine sat heartbroken on the couch while Grant cried in the kitchen. We still loved each other. Neither of us knew how to find our way back. Grant and Christine Wattie

Most people who buy a book like this never finish it. So the book starts with a plan instead of a lecture. Seven nights. One small move a night. Each one is taught in full later in the book.
Reading alone, with a partner who won't engage? Nights one, three and six need nobody's permission. And to get you moving tonight, you also get The Inside Out Workshop: five short videos, one small move under each. A $197 value, free with your book today.
Warning
Meanwhile, fear keeps rebuilding version one in your house every day, through the criticism, the silence and the scorekeeping. Neither of you chose it.
Here's the good news. A pattern can be replaced, by two people who still love each other or started by one of them.
Here's what changes when you stop repairing the old relationship and start building the new one.
If you want version two, order your copy below for just $10.
The method
After twenty years and thousands of couples, we see the same patterns in almost every marriage. Once you can see the pattern, you stop fighting each other. You use practical tools to defeat the pattern instead.
The book teaches nine principles. Here is how they fit together, in four moves.
Move one: close version one
You can't build a future while you're still prosecuting the past. So you feel what needs feeling, forgive what needs forgiving, and then you draw a line in the sand. In the book's words, it's a decision, made once out loud and then kept daily: we have had the conversations, we have felt what needed feeling, and we are not going back to poke the wound again.
Forgiveness here approves of nothing. It's the weight you finally put down. Chapter 8 walks you through it, step by step, even after an affair.
One exception, and it matters. Some situations starve every tool in this book: active addiction, ongoing deception, anything that makes you unsafe. If that's your house, put your safety first and get professional help before relationship work.
Move two: see the pattern, not the villain

In most marriages one partner roars toward the connection to save it. The other goes quiet to protect it. Each one's act of love lands on the other as proof the love is gone. Round and round it goes.
Neither of you is the problem. The pattern is, and you're both inside it. Chapter 3 shows you how to stop it mid-fight, and what love says when fear wants to roar.
Move three: design version two
Most couples have a plan for the mortgage, the renovation and the kids' schooling. And they steer the marriage by vibe. Drift is a direction too.
So you sit down and decide what version two is for. The book starts at the end: what do you want the stories to say about the two of you one day? A shared vision like that doesn't predict your future. It filters your present.
Move four: build it with kept agreements
Your frustration is information: it means you're carrying an expectation your partner never agreed to. Turn it into a request. A yes becomes an agreement. A kept agreement is integrity. Kept word builds trust, trust makes it safe to be seen, and being seen is where intimacy lives.
Love is built through integrity. You don't have to become an eloquent person to have a great marriage. You have to become a reliable one.
Let us ask you something, and it's completely okay to say no
Would it be totally unreasonable to consider that the two of you aren't the problem, and the pattern you're stuck in is?
Is it completely impossible that winning the argument about the past is the one thing standing between you and a future?
Would it be out of line to suggest that your partner's distance might be protection, the same as yours?

"We crafted a great relationship vision together... Those issues we have dragged with us for the past 10 years + are now fading into the past where they should be, and every day we both marvel at how wonderful our marriage is today..."

Joanna, retreat, 2025
"We're the best we've ever been in all our years together. There are still things to work on, and now we work on them together. We've learned to understand ourselves, each other, and how to take on the world as a team."

"Working with you has changed our lives, our relationship and our family in the most profound positive way, and I couldn't thank you more if I tried."

"What if my partner won't do any of this?" Then you start. The book marks every step you can take alone. It only takes one to change the dance.
In New Zealand, about a third of marriages end in divorce before their silver anniversary. Most struggling couples simply stay, unhappy. Neither has to be your story.

Re: your version two
Dear Friend,
It was a warm September afternoon in the Belmont hills, and inside our house the air was ice.
Christine sat numb and heartbroken on the couch in the yellow room. Through the wall she could hear Grant in the kitchen, crying and trying not to be heard. The night before, she had chucked some stuff in a bag.
We still loved each other. Neither of us knew how to find our way back.
We went looking for help and found almost none. The best advice on offer was "have a beer and drown your sorrows." One person told us, "maybe you should just leave."
So we went all-in on our marriage. We studied counselling, trained under world-class mentors, and practised on the only marriage we had. Slowly we learned to talk without having a go at each other. To say what we needed without blame. To forgive each other's stuff-ups and celebrate each other's wins.
Then we looked up and saw couples everywhere drowning the way we had been. Helping them became our life's work. More than twenty years and twenty thousand client hours later, this book is everything we've learned, boiled down to nine principles.
Some of you will know our first book, Love Without Limits. Same Two. New Love. is that book rebuilt from the ground up. New stories. The Tiger-Turtle pattern at its centre. And the idea we now think matters most: love is built through integrity.
Our names are Grant and Christine Wattie. We've been married for over four decades.
We raised three children and we're now surrounded by grandchildren. The yellow room taught us that someday is not promised. That's why we'd love you to start tonight.
With aroha,
Grant & Christine
Yes, seriously. You're probably wondering why we'd put a book like this out for ten dollars.
Some people offer a great deal and then charge your card every month. We charge you once. There's no hidden continuity program.
Here's the truth about the price. We kept asking ourselves how many couples are sitting in pain right now who won't pay for help. So we made a decision. Ten dollars. Digital delivery. No barriers. And yes, if this book changes your marriage, we figure you'll want to know how we can help you personally. That feels like a fair exchange to us.
This price won't stay here forever.

We're counsellors ourselves, and we hear this in almost every first session. When counselling stalls, it's usually because the person got treated instead of the pattern. This book works on the pattern, together, with practical tools you can use at the kitchen bench on a Tuesday. One test for all of it: did anything change in your house this week?
Chapter 8 walks through forgiveness after betrayal, including how couples draw a line in the sand and point the work forward. If you're dealing with abuse, active addiction or anything that makes you unsafe, please put your safety first and get professional help before relationship work.
